DESIGN BOOK LAUNCHES 50 US ARCHITECTS: RESIDENTIAL + PLANNING HARDCOVER BOOK FEATURING RANDY BROWN ARCHITECTS
50 US Architects: Residential + Planning, a new hardcover book written by award-winning author Damir Sinovcic and published by Design Book was unveiled on Friday, March 9, 2012 at an exclusive book launch event hosted by the Bass Museum of Art on Miami Beach, Florida. The book represents a curated collection of award-winning residential and master planning work from leading American designers whose philosophies are rooted in the modernist doctrine or are distilled from vernacular precedents. Meticulously detailed and site-specific, the featured projects focus on sustainability, technology, and the human spirit. Award winning designers from all 50 states are included in the publication and Randy Brown Architects was selected to represent the state of Nebraska.

Take a run-down 3 story 1880′s building in south Omaha with tons of ADA and Fire Code violations and turn loose one architect and seven summer student interns and what do you get? A fantastic built project for the Kent Bellows Studio and Center for the Visual Arts that was so cool that it won a 2012 AIA National Honor Award for Interior Architecture. The project was named one of the 10 best interior projects in the entire nation! 2012 Institute Honor Awards for Interior Architecture

Slat Happy

RBA’s Laboratory house is featured on the back page of Dwell magazine October 2011 issue. The article features a full page photo of one of the slat walls in the house. The wall uses two-by-four and one-by-two wood slats purchased at the local hardware store, but looks like anything but a do-it yourself project! The wall is actually a way to separate space, but is also a sculptural form. The wall is used to separate his youngest son’s bedroom from the communal living space. It was designed and built during the famous RBA summer design-build workshop for students.

RBA work shown at Haystack’s Architecture: Vision & Legacy exhibit

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Haystack campus (in Deer Isle, Maine), designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes (1915-2004). Haystack as a school has influenced generations of makers in the various craft fields, but it has also influenced generations of architects. This summer, Carol A. Wilson, FAIA, is curating a show to explore that influence. The Haystack exhibition, Haystack’s Architecture: Vision & Legacy, at its Center for Community Programs in Deer Isle village, opened July 3rd and will remain on view through September 11th, and by appointment from September 12 – October 15. The exhibition was organized to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Haystack’s campus, in addition to other events marking this important milestone. the work of Randy Brown Architects is among several noted architects included in the exhibit.
