Randy Brown was selected as one of the 13 artists/architects to create steel benches for the public art project entitled Take a Seat. The piece is located on 14th street directly across from the library. Walkers and drivers have been doing double takes since it was installed. Is it art or is it a bench? Or is it a road construction project run amuck? That is exactly the questions Brown wanted to raise with this most recent site specific piece. “We wanted the piece to be urban, to be rough, to be handmade – not something that looks like it came from a store catalog. It is graffiti proof and vandal proof by its very design. It also is multifunction, with many places to sit, lean, chain a bike to or have a stretch as the joggers run by.” said Brown. The “rebar” sculpture is a permanent installation given to the City of Omaha. Read the full article from the Omaha World Herald.
